Inlay, onlay

The inlay is a “filling” made by a dental technician. The dentist fixes this filling by bonding it to the surface of the tooth that has been previously cleaned. An inlay is necessary if the damaged tooth-surface is too big and the broadness of the damage makes it impossible to prepare a filling that is tight sealing. The inlay can be made of different materials. The most commonly used materials are gold, porcelain (tooth coloured) and composites (tooth coloured).
