Guarantee

The dentist is responsible for his/her actions in accordance to the strict compliance with the professional rules and conduct that regulate dentists. However, in order to ensure a high quality of work is achieved there needs to be a commitment and willingness from the patient.

The finished fillings and/or dental prosthesis need to be regularly checked so that any smaller damages and faults can be noticed and corrected in a timely manner. Being able to correct these faults can significantly extend the life span of the dental devices. As with any type of medical treatment there is a certain risk involved so it is the mutual working together of both the doctor as well as the patient, in order to be cautious and conscientious in regards to all medical actions taken.

Fillings

In cases where there are larger fillings (even if the dentist has done his/her work extremely cautiously) it is possible to experience temporary or persistent sensitivity or possibly complications that involve serious pain. In the latter case there might be a need for further treatment (e.g., root canal treatment); the cost of which has to be paid for by the patient. If the filling falls out or breaks, the patient does not have to pay for the cost of changing the filling. If the filling is damaged and it is probable that something similar is going to happen in the future, the patient should consider requesting a crown. In such cases the cost of the unsuccessful filling is deducted from the price of the crown.

Dental Crowns and Bridges

According to clinical tests, 10% of the teeth fitted with crowns are unsuccessful despite a very precise and exact execution of the work. We notice these either by chance during the post-procedure checkups or they cause some complaints with the patients. In these cases there is a need for a root canal treatment of the tooth/teeth in question. The patient pays for the cost of the root canal treatment. The teeth that have received the crown or the bridge can become painful even directly after it has been put in. This is something that cannot be predicted. In such cases a root canal treatment is necessary. The life span of the crowns and bridges is influenced by other factors too. As we get older, we have to take into consideration that gums retract to some degree (either significantly or minimally). This is the reason why the neck of the tooth becomes visible. This can cause slight a sensitivity or might be aesthetically unpleasing. The extent to which this will occur cannot be predicted, but if there is need for correction, the cost will be paid for by the patient. In cases where the porcelain veneer of the crown breaks, the crown falls off or the bridge breaks the repair or replacement is free of charge for the patient. The causes for these failures are generally technological e.g., air inclusion (bubble) inside the porcelain or metal. Among the adult population, teeth clenching and grinding are very common problems. In these cases there is a much higher risk of damaging the porcelain. In the interest of the protection of the dental prosthesis, in these cases there is need for a gum shield or a device (more commonly known as a splint) for the elevation of the occlusion (or rather it keeps the jaws slightly open to not allow the grinding or clenching). The cost of these devices is paid for by the patient. There is no guarantee for damages caused by accidents or violent actions. There is no valid guarantee for the denture prosthesis if the oral hygiene is neglected or the regularity of the follow-up checkups is not respected.

Implants

During the three months following the surgical insertion of implants the so-called bone integration process is completed. In this period we can find out whether the body accepts the implant or not. If the insertion of the implant is not successful there is a possibility to reattempt the insertion of the implants free of charge, or the price of the implant is paid back to the patient and a new solution must be found. After the final prosthesis is finished and it is fixed on the implants, the patient has to attend a follow-up examination at least every six months. If these examinations are not kept, or the patient smokes heavily, or neglects his/her oral hygiene, then there is no guarantee for the implants or the dental prosthesis fixed to them.

Removable dentures

The repair of a broken dental prosthesis (artificial tooth, base plate) is free of charge only in cases where the use is considered normal everyday use.

Other costs

A part of the general risk of the patient is that any procedure related to work regarding that of guarantee problems or any other reason that makes treatment necessary, the patient has to pay for his/her own travelling expenses, cost of accommodation, and the costs connected to the missed working days.
