Dental Crowns

A dental crown is a “cap” that covers the prepared surface of the tooth.
It is recommended to have a crown in cases where we can not achieve the desired result only by using fillings e.g., there are broken teeth, there is serious discolouration, or teeth are loose and weakened due to other reasons (e.g., a root canal). Korona
How is a dental crown made? What kind of materials are dental crowns made of
After the anaesthetic is given we prepare the tooth by polishing it. We then take an imprint, we choose the colour of the tooth, and send this information to the dental technician who prepares and makes the crown. This process takes about five working days. In order to protect the prepared tooth the patient gets a temporary crown. Nowadays there is a wide range of choices. In practice the most commonly used material is the traditional metal-ceramic crown. These types of crowns have a metal frame on which porcelain is baked. We can achieve a good aesthetic appearance and it can be used both on incisors and on molars as well The crowns made entirely of ceramics also have an excellent aesthetic appearance. It is recommended to have this type of crown on the incisors (as they are metal free). The crowns made of zirconium-oxide ceramics have also an excellent aesthetic appearance. These crowns are made with the help of computer-aided technology (and they are metal free).
Why should we use ceramic veneers?
Ceramic veneers are mainly suitable for the correction of the shape and colour of the front teeth. The ceramic veneers are attached only to the outer surface of the teeth (the part that can be seen). On the basis of the imprint we prepare an outer “coating”, which has the same thickness as an eggshell. This is then fixed onto the tooth’s surface using a special bond. The main advantage of ceramic veneers is that we only have to sacrifice a minimal amount of tooth material. However, in the case of weakened teeth the best choice is the use of crowns.
